Thursday 31/1/19 sensory exploration and floral bouquets

Hi families!

Sorry for the delay in this post, we just realised it didn’t successfully post last week.

On Thursday the Bluebells were asking about the playdough and pulling out the playdough box. We decided to make playdough and thought we could extend on the children’s interest in home corner and make ‘cupcake’ inspired playdough. We chose the colour yellow and added some crushed cinnamon and vanilla essence into our dough mix. The Bluebells loved smelling the different ingredients and there was a lot of sniffling noises going around the group, showing they understood what smelling meant. Once the playdough was made the children kept smelling their dough and sharing this experience with their peers and educators, asking them to smell it also. The words, “yummy”, “nose”, “yellow” and “cake” were used throughout this experience.

In the afternoon the children built on their hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and hand dexterity with a floral threading activity. The children were each given a pot with holes in it and made their own beautiful floral arrangements. The children were very engaged and loved showing each other the beautiful flowers!
