2-3 Year Program
Children in this age group are developing their skills and independence across all areas of their life. They are beginning to make choices about their play, completing self-help tasks, developing friendships with their peers and taking ownership of their learning.
Our staff provide a supportive environment that enables children to complete tasks independently. As children are developing at their own pace and have their own interests, each child’s strengths and needs is planned for incorporating their individual interests.
Staff continue to monitor your child’s progress according to the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards Developmental milestones checklist. A copy of the document can be found at the following website (https://www.cscentral.org.au/Resources/eylf/developmental-milestones.pdf).
Children in the 2-3 year are beginning to take more control of their learning. Building on the foundation of sensory and explorative play in the 0-2 year room, play becomes more purposeful and goal driven. Maths, science and literature are a core of the curriculum.
Children are beginning to question and challenge the learning resources they are provided with. They will often ask “why” and this is where our staff facilitate the child’s thirst for learning to problem solve using methods such as trial and error, and cause and effect.
The skills that children develop through this curriculum include: classifying, early counting, matching, text in books, communicating meaning, use of propositions (on, under, behind, in front), negotiating, problem solving, sharing and early co-operation, labelling their drawing and writing.
